volunteers

This project couldn’t have grown so far without the wonderful help of volunteers. Through Workaway, Worldpackers, Instagram and Facebook we are receiving travelers from allover the world almost all year round. They come to help recovering the old property and slowly make steps towards realizing the project goals.

The place and project has been a wonderful experience for all the volunteers to learn about a traditional lifestyle and about natural- and creative solution oriented methods (and in return we have learned so much from them!), exchange cultures, knowledge and ideas, and to enjoy the tranquility and silence and to feel the history of the place.

From the start volunteers have always been a huge part of the project’s progress. They have transformed this place, full of childhood memories, into a fluid community: a place where new stories are now created.

visit us

Do you wish to visit us and become part of our project? Would you like to know more about traditional living and building and live an unforgettable experience with us? You don't have to be a professional, just be open to learn and contribute (in your own way) and have a spirit of exchanging :)

  • Please send us an email with a few lines about yourself and why you would like to visit project Bani Hayoune Garden.

  • We are currently looking for volunteers with experience in searching & writing grant/fund applications for the project. Of course you are also welcome with other imputs :)

  • You come as volunteer and as our guest: most important is that you feel comfortable and safe. Although we expect a shared responsibility, we will never force you to work or ask you to do any task against your will. We do expect that you come here first of all for the project and that you participate.

  • We receive volunteers during a large part of the year, but due to the extreme heat in summer we mainly close between June and September and during the holy month of Ramadan.

  • We ask for a contribution of 75 dirham / €7 a day towards daily living costs (that includes Moroccan tea and 3 meals per day).

  • There is no minimum stay required.

  • As volunteer you get a discount on our desert trip. The income of the desert trips are fully invested back into the project goals.

  • We currently have one shared dorm.

  • We use a traditional bucket shower and Moroccan toilet.

  • Please respect the local traditions & customs.

  • We live with very limited water and will ask you to treat water with care.

  • There is limited internet signal.

  • Due to passed on responsibilities and wild dogs in the area, we only walk together outside the property.

  • There will be a lot of free time and our garden offers much space to enjoy the peacefulness of the land.

  • The ATM in town only works occasionally, so we advise to bring enough cash with you. The local shops don’t accept cards. There is a Western Union office in the nearby town.
